| 1) What is an avatar and/or icon and what are they used for? I use the terms avatar and icon interchangably, becuase to me they mean basically the same thing - an image (either still or animated) used to represent yourself in a forum, journal, or other online social website. These include (but aren't limited to) LiveJournal, deviantArt, MyAnimeList, Blogger, etc. Generally avatars are square in dimension and range in size from DA's 48 x 48 limit all the way up to 200 x 200. Please Note: Right now I am not accepting non-square avatars into the group. However, if someone can show me a site that uses them, I'll be willing to consider it. For more information about various avatar sizes, please take a look at this article: [link] 2) Why don't you have a folder for "Name of Random Series"? Probably because I haven't thought of it.  Or because there aren't enough icons for that series to have its own folder. If you're not sure where to put your icon, please feel free to submit it to the "Featured" folder. That might change in the future, but for now that's the best place to put it.3) What if my avatar isn't anime-related? It needs to be related to Asian art in some size, shape or fashion. Anime, Manga, Manhwa, Manhua, Japanese Games, etc. In fact, if anyone's interested in submitting any, I'll even allow (and make a section for) the OEL (or Ameri-manga) that Tokoypop was publishing (such as Dramacon or Bizenghast.) 4) I think I know which folder to submit my icon to...but I'm not sure. What should I do? Take a quick look at the gallery (or galleries) where you think your avatar might belong. If there is one, read the gallery's description found on the left-hand side of the screen. If that still doesn't help, send me a message. I'm currently on DA everyday...and usually for at least several hours at a time. I promise to respond to your questions ASAP.  5) I have a base or a tutorial that I'd like to submit, but it's not strictly anime-related. Can I still submit it? Of course! The rules are bent a bit for this category. As long as you've got a helpful tutorial or an awesome base that could theoretically be used to create an anime icon or avatar, then it will be welcome in the group.  6) I noticed that you've got an icon in a wrong folder. What should I do? Please tell me! While I am an ANIME ADDICT, I can only keep so many series inside my head - stuff is bound to slip through.  I want to be as organized as possible, so the sooner someone tells me, the sooner I can fix it. 7) Umm...you DO realize that Nyancat ISN'T Asian, right? Eh heh... Yes I do...but the character is seeped in the uber-kawaii aspects of Japanese culture...so I've decided to accept Nyancat avatars, too.  __________________________________________ I'm sure I'll think of other things y'all might want to know...but they're all slipping my mind right now. For free online gif makers, just type "free online gif animation" into Google and it should pull up a few different options. I think Gimp also has animation options, but I've never used it, so I'm not sure. 
You can also do a Google search for "gif animation tutorial" which will give you a variety of options depending on the software you have access to.
